Self-Powered Hydraulic Unit

Helping others is one of the principles that motivates Teclit to invent new things. When he saw a largish female presenter struggle to get on and off her chair, he felt bad for her - and thought there must be an easier way. Little did he know that it was Oprah Winfrey!

18 years later, the self-powered hydraulic chair was complete. Sitting on the chair, all you need to do is push a button to adjust its height and tilt. What’s more, it uses no external energy, just mineral oil as a medium.

While it sounds so simple, Teclit had spent many hours refining its internal hydraulic system, self-contained in the chair’s supporting column. Yet the hard work was worth it. The mechanism can be used in plane seats and industrial machines.

Teclit is currently developing this invention to use it for prosthetic legs, where the device uses the amputee’s weight to generate the hydraulic energy that then enables controlled movements of the limb. The idea evolved over several of Teclits’ encounters with war victims in Eritrea and the UK, as well as surviving several conflicts himself. He wanted to make their lives easier and this mechanism was the key to doing it.
